Market Report – March 2021

As with the past year, the uncertainty the pandemic brings is making this the toughest of summers for forecasting volumes and prices. However, at TMP, we are already working with our Partners and Suppliers to get some ideas of numbers and forecasts to ensure your supplies remain unaffected.

If you can take a minute to look at some of the growing cycles you will understand the importance we place on this with our growers.

FOOD SERVICE

Herbs

Although herbs have been very difficult throughout February due to the weather across Europe being so cold. We are still managing to source from Africa until the continent heats up again.

Asparagus

You may have seen on the news the UK  has had a crop of early asparagus due to the mild weather the South Coast has been experiencing. We may also see some new season Italian Asparagus in March.

Bok Choi

Although slightly more challenging in February due to the weather Spain experienced throughout January, we are forecasting no issues from mid-March as the next cycle arrives.

Wild Mushrooms

Although, normally more difficult in March, however, we should see Morels from China (finishing) and then Turkey. There should be some Chanterelles from North America and the last of the pied de mouton from Portugal. Mousseron and later St George, may appear.

Cheese

Again, our advice is to stick with UK produced cheeses, including; Cheddar, Red Leicester, Blue Stilton, Cornish Yarg, Barkswell, Oxford blue, Laverstoke Mozzarella, Bath Blue, Blackstick Blue, Cornish Brie.
